John Stephen Wurzler

John S. Wurzler has used his knowledge, experience and insight to become one of the leaders in bringing Internet technology insurance programs to market.

In 1996, Mr. Wurzler began to realize a paradigm shift was about to take the business world apart at the seams. The traditional brick and mortar methods and processes were on the cusp of adapting to a shift in point of sale, shipping and receiving as well as hours of operation. All precipitated by the rapid advances in technology and the Internet. He embarked on extensive research and within two years began a company that would develop insurance products to fill the needs of the new business models. His company, J. S. Wurzler Underwriting Managers (JSWUM), specialized in insuring companies developing their e-commerce and e-business models.

In a short period of time, Mr. Wurzler and his company grew to be one of the leaders in a competitive global marketplace. He served as a consultant to the National Security Advisor to President Clinton, has been quoted and featured in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The Industry Standard, CIO, Investor’s Business Daily, E-Commerce Business, and many, many others, and has become an “in-demand” speaker on this new and growing industry.

In early 2005, Mr. Wurzler joined CNA, as a Vice President responsible for leading and expanding the Technology Segment and the Internet and Computer Security Group. He is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. At CNA Mr. Wurzler will use is 28 years of insurance experience along with his 11 years of Technology, Internet & Network Security expertise to help clients Worldwide with their diverse insurance requirements. Mr. Wurzler comes to CNA after a very successful career at AIG eBusiness Risk Solutions.

Mr. Wurzler joined AIG’s eBusiness Risk Solutions Team, a unit of the property and casualty insurance companies of American International Group, Inc.). as a Vice President responsible for Marketing and Underwriting in the Midwest and Canada.. AIG eBusiness Risk Solutions is the leading provider of e-commerce and e-business insurance in the World with a 70% market share. At AIG, Mr. Wurzler was responsible for defining and delivering the strategy for the US Central Zone and Canadian distribution, in order to achieve profitable revenue growth and enable AIG to maximize its position as the world's leading specialist in insurance solutions for digital risk.

Mr. Wurzler previously co-founded Medical-Net in 1994, an Internet services company for physicians and the healthcare community. He designed and built a system that allowed physicians to share information and complex medical problems over a secure Internet system. Today, this system is being marketed to healthcare professionals throughout the United States.

Earlier in his career, prior to his entrepreneurial ventures, Mr. Wurzler lead the financial turn- around of the Physicians Insurance Company of Michigan (Now ProAssurance) as the Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to that he spent many years learning the insurance business while serving as a financial officer of the Home Insurance Company.

Mr. Wurzler holds a BA, Business Administration from St. Michael's College in Vermont, and has earned an MBA in International Finance from Adelphi University. Mr. Wurzler anticipates completing the SANS Global Information Assurance Certification in Legal Issues in Information Technology and Information Security in April 2008. In addition, he serves on Board of Governors of the United States Pony Club and other not-for-profit boards and foundations. In his spare time, Mr. Wurzler enjoys competing with his horses in U.S. Eventing Association competitions around the country with his daughter and her horses.
